Who Said It Was Easy?…

Someone has well said that “PREACHING IS THE EASY PART” and they were SOOOO right. I’ve been in the ministry 33 years. We have seen victories, trials, and more. When God allows you to pastor a church it is a huge responsibility. It is much more than a “couple of times a week” “job”. When you PASTOR you begin to accept responsibility for the “sheep” that God sends your way. Many pastor’s don’t want to “get involved” in the lives of their sheep. I once was told by a pastor that he preferred to preach to them, counsel them and then NOT fellowship, get to know or get involved in the daily lives of the “sheep”. Well if that is the criteria for being a good pastor – i’ve FAILED MISERABLY! I can’t help it – I love my sheep. I rejoice when I see them walk in victory. I get excited when I begin to see them grow, mature and change into strong believers. I rejoice when I see God begin to take the “mess” of their lives and make a “message” out of their lives that they can share with others and reach souls for the kingdom too. On the same note – I also get heavy hearted and troubled when I see the sheep God has given me falling back into the world. They do not just wake up and say, “I think i’m going back into the world today.” Nope, they slowly begin to make small choices, compromising and slipping a little here and there and before you know it they are living contrary to what their mouths want you to believe. They “SAY” that they DEEPLY DESIRE a close walk with Jesus and then leave and go right back to the “hog pen” of sin that they came out of. While I’m sure they love Jesus and many of them are saved – it seems that the devil is “on them” and works hard to “steal, kill and destroy them” like never before. Many sheep need to “come to their senses” like the prodigal son and WAKE UP before it’s too late. Many of them – because of their choices are headed to bigger problems than they can see with their natural eyes. Some are headed to jail if they continue their lifestyles. Some back to prison. Some are taking chances that they might even lose their children because of selfish, foolish choices they are making. The prodigal son (Luke 15:17) “CAME TO HIMSELF” and then realized he needed to restore his fellowship with his Father. He had to admit HE made some bad choices. He had to admit that HE was his own problem. He didn’t blame his father, his raising, the economy or even other people for his choices. He owned up to his own sinful, selfish choices and then realized he needed to GO BACK to his father and REPENT – ADMIT HIS SIN and TURN FROM IT if he was to be restored. He never lost his “familyship” but he did lose his “fellowship” with his father and family. How I pray that some of the sheep God has placed under my care will “come to themselves” before it’s too late. How I pray I don’t have to visit them in jail, prison or worse yet conduct a memorial service for them because of their selfish choices. REAL PASTORING isn’t easy. Regardless – I refuse to stop praying, stop loving and stop trying to help the sheep God has given me mature and grow in Him. No one is a “hopeless case” – all need love, prodding and encouragement to come home. I don’t “baby” the sheep – but i’m honest and sometimes a little “in your face” – but truth must be told and truth sometimes hurts. Jesus, please open the eyes of those sheep that need it TODAY.
