When you come to Joshua chapter 5 you see God’s people excited — they have now entered the promised land. Their parents, because of unbelief, had been sentenced to wander around 40 years until they all passed away and only the “new generation” would have the blessing of seeing God’s promise come to pass. After this “new generation” stepped foot on the land God had promised them according to Joshua 5:2 God commanded Joshua to make flint knives and to circumcise all the men. This was a cutting away of the flesh for the purpose of identification to their faith and to their God. They did this in order to have a “fresh start”. These men were not circumcised along the wilderness journey. On this day they would be making a commitment to their God and to their faith. Many who are reading this need a “fresh start”. You ONCE were on fire for the Lord. You once were excited about your relationship with Jesus. You once devoured God’s Word and talked to Him through prayer on a daily basis – but now you have become lukewarm. You no longer have any zeal. Your heart isn’t where it ought to be. Your commitment is to other things – temporal things – found in this world. TODAY IS YOUR DAY. It’s time for a FRESH START. Today is your day to call on the Lord and ask Him to help you “come home”. Ask Him to circumcise your heart (cut away anything that might keep you from fellowship with Him). The ball is in your court — what you gonna do?
